One advantage of keeping one’s band lineup anonymous is that personnel changes can be executed without attracting attention, keeping the focus on the music. That’s the approach employed by Oakland thrash/death metallurgists Ghoul. Adopting evocative stage names (Cremator, Digestor, Dissector and Fermentor), the quartet releases albums with equally memorable titles (We Came for the Dead!!!, Splatterthrash, etc.). Those releases, some of which are concept albums, have been enthusiastically embraced by fans of the genre. With mainstay singer/guitarist Sean McGrath fronting the group, Ghoul’s most recent release is the 2024 EP Noxious Concoctions. Portland hardcore punk band Dry Socket opens.
