Good poetry, or in Kim Addonizio’s case, exceptionally great poetry, brings the audience along through the exteriorization of the poet’s inner, often tumultuous, world. Celebrating her latest work, Exit Opera, and her ninth book of poetry, the award-winning, internationally acclaimed Addonizio bares her soul yet again. Addonizio is a rock star of words; she compresses images into her notebooks and then bravely shares them with strangers. There’s nothing musty about Addonizio. Her subjects, like mortality, love, and lust, might be ancient, but her brilliant sense of humor and emotional depth vibrate the page with electricity.
