Greg Ahee and Alex Leonard started off in Detroit as a duo called Butt Babies. Adding Joe Casey as a dynamic front man and filling out the band, Protomartyr has now released more than six studio albums. When a band’s drummer is Alex Leonard (grandson of Elmore Leonard) people can expect cinematic mind movies. Bands usually find veins of unexplored musical territory for inspiration and exploit them. Protomartyr has perfected swimming in a sonic wash that is less about rage and more about vibrant expressions combining poetic stories with one of the fullest sounds to emerge in a long while.
