Son jarocho blends Indigenous, African, and Spanish Baroque influences. Los Vega are renowned as one of Mexico’s leading performers of this traditional music from southern Veracruz. With over 20 years of experience, the family-based ensemble has performed at major festivals and venues across Mexico, as well as in the United States, Canada, China, and Colombia. Their recording of “La Bruja” featured in the Oscar-nominated soundtrack of Frida (2001). Five albums later, Los Vega continues to bring a powerful, authentic son jarocho experience. Their 20th anniversary includes performances on jarana jarocha, a consort of guitars, as they sing nostalgic, hypnotic, and humorous songs.
