Jorge Mario Bergoglio became the first non-European pope in almost 1,300 years and the first pontiff to choose the name Francis. Settling in as The Cool Pope, Frannie yawned at outrage over contraception, gay marriage and abortion, and even denounced unfettered capitalism as “tyranny.”
Lean In
Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook’s chief operating officer, shared the secret to her success in Lean In, a book about workplace empowerment for women that spurred a movement of networking groups as well as a nonprofit named for the book. Lean In-ers and other fans of the book lauded Sandberg’s work as a feminist manifesto but others, like author Susan Faludi, dissed it all as corporate shilling that encourages women to adopt traditional ways of doing business instead of championing a different workplace culture.
