Inaugural C2SV
The first C2SV Conference and Festival made its home in the newly expanded McEnery Convention Center. John McAfee showed up to talk about guns in his bedroom. Nolan Bushnell and Steve Wozniak shared the stage. And convention center staff booted naked models during a body-paint session. Later on the models reappeared on stage at St. James Park with festival headliners Iggy and The Stooges. The band’s guitarist, James Williamson, was also a keynote speaker at the conference, where he discussed his 30-year hiatus from punk rock, working as a Silicon Valley engineer.
Mercury News Movin’ on Down
Print is dying. Well, maybe paid print is dying. The San Jose Mercury News got too small for its britches and decided it was time to sell off its 36-acre campus along Interstate 880 for a cool $30.5 million to Super Micro Computer. The fledgling daily newspaper has yet to announce a new home, while production crews experience widespread layoffs as print operations were consolidated in the East Bay.
