Launched in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1982, Soda Stereo established themselves as leaders in the rock en español world. Their sound drew from pop, New Wave, ska/reggae, shoegaze rock, and electronica. The group’s 1980s releases established them as international superstars. In 1996 Soda Stereo won an MTV Latin America Award for International Viewer’s Choice, the first recipient of that award in Latin music. After releasing their seventh studio album, Sueño Stereo, the group split in 1997 but returned twenty years later. After another extended quiet period they returned for a 2020-22 tour; the latest tour is billed as Soda Stereo Ecos.
