The Revolutionists in Los Altos

Sharp and startlingly relevant, this fierce comedy brings together four extraordinary women who lived boldly during the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror: historical playwright Olympe de Gouges; Charlotte Corday, who assassinated the journalist Marat; the glamorous and unapologetic Marie Antoinette; and Marianne Angelle, a fictional rebel who fights for the parallel revolution happening in Haiti. Together, they fight to beat back the hyper violent male rhetoric that has sunk a hopeful revolution into extremist insanity. Within this nonfiction world of Paris in 1793, playwright Lauren Gunderson tells a story weaving together “violence and legacy, art and activism, feminism and terrorism.” Goes until Sept 27.
