On March 24, Michael Johnson became the 12th San Jose police officer killed in the line of duty, when he was ambushed by a suicidal shooter in South San Jose. A 14-year veteran of the department, law enforcement from across the country congregated in a packed SAP Center to honor Johnson’s life and service. He was 38 years old.
KP defeats Pao
Boorish behavior got a pass when venture capital firm KP prevailed over a former partner in a closely watched suit claiming gender discrimination. Plaintiff Ellen Pao accused the firm, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, of discriminating against her. Kleiner Perkins scored a sweeping victory in the case, which had mesmerized Silicon Valley with its salacious details while simultaneously shedding light on concerns about the technology industry’s lack of diversity.
