Jam rockers ALO—that’s Animal Liberation Orchestra—came out of Saratoga in the late 1990s, evolving out of an earlier group in which three members played during their high school years. A large ensemble with horns, ALO eventually formed a working relationship with Jack Johnson; in 2006, they signed to his Brushfire Records. The band’s latest release, 2025’s Frames is ALO’s 12th release on the label. These days, ALO records and tours as a more streamlined unit, but the shaggy jam aesthetic that won them a dedicated following is still at the core of the band’s sound.
