California Current places historical works about Bay Area art and artists in conversation with contemporary ones. Over 60 paintings, sculptures, photographs, and time-based media by Bay Area artists, spanning from the twentieth century to the present, trace interconnected events, asking: What has drawn so many people to this region? What has allowed communities and creative practices to take root here? And what continues to keep so many people (despite contradictions, pressures, and constant reinvention) deeply connected to this place? Arranged thematically across time and media, this inquisitive exhibition explores the many forces that have shaped artistic production and everyday life in the Bay. Goes until Oct 23, 2027.
