.The River Bride Meanders to City Lights

Finding a “happy ever after” is not always a straight path. In The River Bride, the latest City Lights production for the 2022-23 season, the road to happiness comes in the form of both Brazilian folklore and lyric storytelling. The play follows two sisters living in a fishing village, Helena and Belmira, as they prepare for the latter’s wedding—all while determining if a mysterious stranger pulled directly from the Amazon can offer them an alluring, possibly dangerous future. The play was called “an incredibly original and affecting night in the theater” by the Houston Press.
