Opera Cultura presents a chamber opera based on the life of Chicana activist Olga Talamante, whose migrant experience in Gilroy shaped her eventual path. Her work in grassroots freedom led to a harrowing arrest and imprisonment during Argentina’s Dirty War. In 1975, artist Malaquías Montoya created a silkscreen poster—a blindfolded figure and three fists gripping barbed wire—to help free her. This intimate, hourlong program was originally commissioned by Quinteto Latino, a virtuosic wind ensemble amplifying Latina/o/e identity in classical music. Written by Carla Lucero, ¡Chicanísima! is performed by Soprano Alexa Sessler, mezzo-soprano Jessica Gonzalez-Roddriguez, and tenor Sergio Gonzalez.
