In pop music, 30 years is an eternity, but the music of the Gipsy Kings carries generations—harkening back the sounds of the Romani people who fled the Catalonia region during the Spanish Civil War. Before Nicolas Reyes co-founded the Gipsy Kings, he backed his father’s band under the name Los Reyes. Later, as Nicolas traveled and busked throughout the country, his band translated “Los Reyes” and became the Gipsy Kings. They have featured in films and played some of the world’s greatest stages, but they are still beloved for their unique ability to share the vibrant history of the gitanos.
