In 1996 Marlon Brando and Val Kilmer starred in a film adaptation of H.G. Wells’ The Island of Doctor Monroe. It’s the story of a crazed doctor who creates animal-human hybrids and touches on themes of morality, cruelty, what it means to be human, and the effects of trying to manipulate nature. From the outside, Pink Talking Fish sounds like one of those things: an eclectic hybrid of acid rockers Pink Floyd, New Wave art rockers The Talking Heads and jam band Phish. However, somehow, the musicians of this dastardly group pull it off in a way that’s as fun as it is astounding.
