Paul Simon at Stanford

Paul Simon’s “A Quiet Celebration” sounds exactly like the kind of late-career framing that fits him: less victory lap, more careful, deliberate evening with one of the deepest catalogs in American songwriting. That can mean a lot of things, but the draw here is not spectacle anyway. It is the chance to hear songs this finely built in a room and setting that should actually let them breathe. Frost is a strong match for that. This feels like one of those shows where the understatement is the selling point, and where the crowd probably knows to listen as much as cheer. Performance also on Thursday.
