The Asian American Art Initiative (AAAI) is one of the fastest-growing areas of Cantor’s collection. The AAAI, founded in 2018 by Stanford art history professor Marci Kwon and Cantor associate curator of modern and contemporary art Aleesa Pitchamarn Alexander, is one of the nation’s leading museum initiatives dedicated to Asian American art. Publications, archival research, and community collaboration have helped grow the collection from 30 to 800 works. In Focus highlights the remarkable breadth of Asian American artists, reflecting a wide range of histories, perspectives, and creative concerns. Many of these recent acquisitions are being shown for the first time. Goes until Feb 22, 2027.
