Composer Matthew Sklar and lyricist Chad Beguelin collaborated on the Broadway shows Elf: The Musical and The Wedding Singer, which received five Tony Awards nominations. With a book by Bob Martin, their latest musical, 2018’s The Prom, also was nominated for several Tony’s. Based on an actual event, the story follows four fading Broadway actors as they help a high school student in a small Indiana town who wants to take her girlfriend to the senior prom. This production features high school students from Starting Arts’ Dream Team, a nonprofit that offers arts programming to Bay Area schools.
